JMC IMPLEMENT ELITE SOLUTION : JMC PRESS REPORT
JMC has worked with Elite Transport to implement a comprehensive business continuity solution and ensure a resilient system.
With six strategic depots based in Birmingham, Felixstowe, Leeds, Manchester, Southampton and London Thamesport, Elite Transport Services has carried out container haulage operations from Britain’s major ports since 1989. As a £31m turnover organisation, its reputation for providing quality services in the time critical industry of container logistics is paramount to its success and continued future growth.
JMC has worked with Elite since early 2005. Initially a Pegasus Opera II client, Elite has recently implemented a significant business continuity (BC) solution to ensure it has as resilient a system as possible. Despite factors such as spiralling fuel costs, which put extreme pressure on its industry, Elite still has aggressive growth targets to meet; as a result downtime is not an option. An added bonus is that Elite’s BC solution now provides an all important competitive advantage in the current tightening market.
The key focus of BC solutions is to remove any single points of failure and to ensure high system availability. In Elite’s case all data was being centrally stored at its Manchester office. In the event of a disaster at the site, operations would have ground to a halt. Not only would client service be dramatically affected but Elite would also face significant fines for missing its loading slots at ports. These fines, multiplied across a fleet some 300 strong, mean that any downtime quickly becomes a costly thing.
To ensure a highly resilient, yet highly scalable system, a Dell Storage Area Network (SAN) was implemented. This SAN supported the large network which was then backed-up by offsite data replication to the IFL business data centre in Manchester.
